Finlay Industries Inc. (Finlays), an ISO
9001-2000 standard certified company, is a
storage and distribution service business that
focuses on Fortune 500 companies in providing
long-term parts support to their customers.
Established in 1971, the company currently
employs 125 workers. Year after year, the
company has grown its safety program and the
results speak for themselves — as of February
the company achieved over 1,500 days without a
lost time accident.
Everyone is the safety professional at
Finlay, including the President/CEO, senior
management, middle management, and employees.
Its zero accident culture, safety training
programs, safety inspections/audits, standards
for housekeeping, and health risk assessments
make its safety program one of the best.
Management believes a clean work environment
results in a safe workplace.
Employees are encouraged to resolve safety
concerns using the company’s safety guidelines.
Employees take turns performing monthly safety
inspections throughout the company’s facilities.
These inspections and other safety related
topics are reviewed at monthly employee safety
meetings, which are facilitated by the Corporate
Operations Manager.
Annually, as part of new employee
orientations, employees and management are
retrained and take a written test for
comprehension on mandated safety programs.
The company pays 100 percent of its
employees’ health insurance premiums if they
participate in an annual health risk assessment
run through its healthcare provider. Management
encourages healthy eating habits by providing
employees with fresh fruit choices everyday at
no cost to employees.
A mandatory exercise program consists of 18
stretching exercises at the start of each
employee’s shift, including the President/CEO
and all management and office personnel. It also
provides free flu immunizations, and reimburses
both employees and their spouses $1 per day for
each time they attend a fitness center of their
choice. Smoking cessation, dietary and fitness
educational programs are also provided to
employees free of charge throughout the year.
