Plainfield Trucking, Inc., - Plainfield
Category B1 - Agriculture, Forestry, Transportation, Mining & Utilities

Plainfield Trucking, Inc. has been providing safe, dependable transportation services since 1958. Headquartered in Plainfield, it is the largest raw products transporter in the state, operating 80 over-the-road company units, and contracting with additional independent contractors and carriers. It employs more than 100 workers, including commercial drivers, tractor and trailer repair personnel, trailer spotters, dispatch and office support staff. It operates coast-to-coast with the heaviest volume going to the Midwest, South, and West.

In 2006 the company achieved a zero recordable incident rate and zero lost time cases. It has demonstrated a marked improvement in all categories of compliance, with the most notable being the reduction of Department of Transportation recordable accidents.

Its safety and wellness programs have evolved over recent years into a multi-faceted series of programs designed to enhance safety on the job, and address various methods to improve and enhance an employee’s overall physical and mental well-being.

Recognizing the benefits of creating additional new programs in the areas of safety and health, executive management — in concert with its insurance and health providers — formulated numerous programs and incentives to foster the participation and awareness of all employees.

Plainfield Trucking offers an annual safety bonus to its employees. Safety improvements, ideas and achievements are recognized and rewarded, with company and guest speakers addressing specific areas of safety related topics that impact company operations.

The company implemented a wellness program in 2006. It offers a company-sponsored Health Risk Assessment for each employee, that include numerous tests and a general physical evaluation of each participating employee. The wellness program addresses improved dietary habits, exercise and fitness, and encourages the elimination or reduction of unhealthy habits or practices.

The company has implemented a campaign to communicate its safety successes to all employees.
