ABOUT US

Safety Partnership

The Safety Partnership came into existence as a means to gather resources and expertise toward a common target – improved safety. The responsibility for workplace safety is divided among many varied groups. Many of these groups work collaboratively on projects at various points in time. However, there had not been a sustained collaboration among the groups with a specific direction. To address this, the Department of Workforce Development, Worker’s Compensation Division provided leadership in organizing these various groups into a Safety Partnership.

Currently, the Safety Partnership is composed of representatives from:

Naturally, each member brings a different viewpoint or concern about workplace safety to the Partnership. OSHA is traditionally viewed as enforcement of safety standards for the worker, as is the Wisconsin AFL-CIO. The Departments of Health and Family Services and Public Instruction have a greater concern for the safety of the young worker entering today’s workplace. Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce provides the employer’s view of safety concerns. American Family Insurance pays attention to the employer’s bottom line through injury costs and premiums. The Wisconsin Council of Safety works for safety – at work and at home. Despite these different perspectives, the common goal is to create a safe work environment in Wisconsin. The “Wisconsin Workplace Safety Institute” is just the beginning of what the Safety Partnership hopes to accomplish.
