Great Lakes Roofing Corporation (GLRC) is a commercial/industrial-roofing contractor that specializes in flat re-roof applications, architectural sheet metal, maintenance/service of roofs and new construction roof installations. Great Lakes Roofing Corporation has created and is committed to a comprehensive safety program that ensures the health and safety of all employees and customers on site.

The company's safety-first attitude is reinforced at an annual safety training day, weekly safety circle meetings, and weekly safety meetings. Its efforts have paid dividends. The company has gone eight and one-half years without a lost time accident. The Germantown Fire Department has even trained with GLRC on ways to move around on roofs in emergency situations and extreme weather conditions.

Each week, the company begins its workweek with a Safety Circle Meeting and company wide safety meeting. Prevention is the major focus of the program through increased awareness. Safety planning for jobs and tasks start with the information gathered on each job. Any unusual safety or job condition is checked over by the Safety Director and Operations Manager prior to bidding on a project.

Five years ago, the company participated in OSHA's Roofing Industry Partnership Program for Safety and Health. The company scored 96.7 percent on its written program and qualified for the highest level.

The company celebrates every three months it completes no lost time accidents with $100 crew bonuses. If an entire year is completed with no lost time accidents, employees receive an additional bonus and the entire company enjoys a free dinner.

GLRC has been a recipient of the Wisconsin Council of Safety Award three of the last four years.
