Tufco Technologies performs several different operations in one facility. It converts paper, tissue and other substrates into products including household cleaning wipes and personal/baby care items in its contract manufacturing sector and it performs printing, folding, packaging, laminating and coating processes in its base operations sector.

The company's mission statement includes Standards for Organization Behavior, which is in place to protect all employees from injury and illness while providing them with a safe work environment. Its goal is to provide a zero accident safety culture throughout the facility and to improve the working conditions for all employees.

The company plans to accomplish its goals by teaching all employees the importance of having a safe and healthy work environment. All of the company's safety efforts are based on its philosophy to "Never Compromise Safety".

Hazards with immediate danger are immediately addressed by all employees and corrected before any additional work can be completed. The company's utilizes "Eye's of Safety" forms allowing employees to address hazards. All areas in the plant have a safety champion, who is responsible for completing a weekly observation check sheet to details any hazards and coordinating emergency preparedness efforts.

The company's return-to-work/light duty program starts with its close relationship with area clients, hospitals and doctors. The company allows local doctors to tour its facility to review work areas for potential light duty work. The company tracks employee training and progresses. If an employee does not attend the required training session he/she could lose up to one-third of his yearly wage increase.

Tufco has cut its workers compensation cases by over 75 percent over the last two year, and hopes to achieve OSHA's VPP status by 2003.
