MANUFACTURING > INJURY DATA

Manufacturing usually involves the use of some type of machine to produce a product – whether cutting, stamping, heating, mixing, etc. Employees need instruction on the proper procedure for operating their machine, lifting materials to process on the machine, and proper use of any required personal protective equipment. For Wisconsin in 1999, 5% of the workplace fatalities resulted from machines functioning during maintenance. During the same time period, half of all lost-time worker’s compensation claims for eye injuries were in manufacturing

Statistics for Wisconsin for the past three years on the cause and nature of injuries and which body parts are affected are available below. These statistics are based on claim data entered in the WC Division’s injury database for the years 1999, 2000 and 2001.
